Chelsea reportedly failed with a €60 million (£52 million) bid for Paris Saint-Germain centre-back and Manchester United target Marquinhos last summer. Meanwhile, United trialist Pierpaolo D'Errico is said to be "dreaming" of a move to Old Trafford.
Lucas Sposito of Sport Witness sourced reports from French newspaper Le 10 Sport and Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo, which both suggested Chelsea offered the sum for Marquinhos before moving for David Luiz instead.
Barcelona are said to have been the other major power interested in a move for Marquinhos, while the Red Devils have been linked with a move for the Brazil international on numerous occasions in recent years.
