Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney misses out on EFL Cup final as Zlatan Ibrahimovic's late winner sees Marouane Fellaini brought on instead

Wayne Rooney will probably say he does not mind and that Manchester United claiming another trophy is more important but he will surely have a twinge of regret that he was denied an EFL Cup final appearance.

Rooney was moments away from an introduction as manager Jose Mourinho turned to his veteran forward with the game at 2-2 and poised for extra time. Zlatan Ibrahimovic's 86th-minute winner meant Mourinho was forced to ask Rooney to put back on his coat.
