It wasn’t quite in the same league as keeping Eden Hazard quiet last month in the Premier League but when Celta Vigo playmaker Daniel Wass was taken off with 15 minutes left it was another victory for Ander Herrera in a role he is growing into with increasing authority.
He was back on the ground where he posed for his first ever football picture aged just two-years and wearing the 1991 Umbro sky-blue shirt of Celta Vigo. His dad Pedro had played for the club and was their sporting director at the time.
The return to his roots was a happy one and seeing the back of Wass on 75 minutes was a measure of that.
