Manchester United 'have walked away from signing at least four transfer targets in the last 12 months' as a result of a new policy of greater due diligence on potential recruits.
During almost a decade of underachievement and five managers since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, the Old Trafford club have squandered hundreds of millions of players who didn't fit the bill.

The Daily Telegraph reported that United have started conducting deeper background checks on players in an effort to identify potential warning signs about their character and temperament before they are signed.
