Jose Mourinho has done something not even David Moyes or Louis van Gaal managed to do… lose a European home game as Manchester United manager.
In fact, Mourinho has become just the second coach after Sir Alex Ferguson to lose a European game at Old Trafford while in charge of the Red Devils.
Despite playing in European campaigns from the 1956/57 campaign, it was not until 1996/97 - an incredible 40 years later - that Manchester United suffered defeat at the Theatre of Dreams.
Those 40 years saw United play a continental campaign (European Cup, Cup Winners’ Cup, Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, UEFA Cup, Champions League) 19 times, and play 55 European home matches before succumbing to a 1-0 defeat to Fenerbahce in the 56th European match played at Old Trafford.
