The brains trust who will help choose the next England manager will surprisingly include former FA technical chief Howard Wilkinson, but not Manchester United director David Gill, who was instrumental in the short-lived appointment of Sam Allardyce.
The group headed by FA chairman Greg Clarke, chief executive Martin Glenn and technical director Dan Ashworth, will discuss the options in the period after England's friendly against Spain next Tuesday — with interim boss Gareth Southgate the firm favourite barring the wheels coming off against Scotland on Friday night.
Gill's omission follows significant upset among Premier League clubs over the conflict with his Old Trafford role in having a part in choosing Allardyce, who was even interviewed at the home of Gill in Cheshire.
