Manchester United 'cool their interest' in RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano with Bayern Munich now leading the race to sign £38m star next summer as a long-term replacement for David Alaba and Jerome Boateng

Bayern Munich are now in pole position to sign RB Leipzig's Dayot Upamecano next summer after Manchester United pulled out of the race to sign the defender, according to reports.

The young Frenchman has become one of Europe's most sought-after players after impressing in the heart of Julian Nagelsmann's defence as Leipzig reached the Champions League semi-finals last season.

United have been heavily linked with him in the past while Liverpool are also said to be interested as Jurgen Klopp looks for emergency reinforcements in his defence because of their injury crisis.
