Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney injured knee by slipping over energy drink bottle

Wayne Rooney’s knee injury was caused by slipping over an energy drink bottle as he emerged from the shower following England’s 3-0 victory over Scotland on Friday.

The Manchester United striker was forced to miss Tuesday’s friendly with Spain as a result and has been heavily criticised for drinking on Saturday evening in the team hotel.

It is understood that the England captain tripped over the bottle as he came out of the shower at Wembley and then banged his knee.
