Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney ‘hid’ thigh injury which ruled him out of Chelsea clash from boss Jose Mourinho

Wayne Rooney's attempts to hide a knock he picked up against Fenerbahce put paid to his potential involvement against Chelsea, according to Jose Mourinho.

The Manchester United boss revealed that his captain was feeling the effects of a thigh injury during his side's 4-1 victory against the Turkish giants but played through the pain barrier in order to complete the full 90 minutes.

Rooney felt the full repercussions of his actions, however, when he exacerbated the injury during a training session.
