Mason Greenwood has emerged as a possible makeweight in Manchester United’s bid to sign Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund.
Greenwood has been suspended by United for 17 months following his arrest in January 2022 on suspicion of rape and assault, and did not report for pre-season training with his teammates this week.
United have been conducting an internal investigation since the Crown Prosecution Service dropped all charges against Greenwood in February, and the likelihood is that the 21-year-old striker will be loaned out to a European club for the forthcoming season.
It’s understood that United’s football director John Murtough has discussed the possibility of Greenwood making a temporary move to Atalanta during his negotiations with the Italian club over Hojlund.
