Manchester United 1-0 Crystal Palace - Fred to the rescue! Much-maligned midfielder scores a STUNNING goal from outside the box as Ralf Rangnick's reign as interim manager is off to perfect start

Fred scored the only goal of the game as Ralf Rangnick's reign as interim manager at Manchester United got off to the perfect start with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.

The German had spoken effusively of the attacking talent at his display after being formally unveiled as United's manager for the next six months last week, but the honour of scoring the first goal of his tenure at Old Trafford fell on the often-maligned Brazilian midfielder.

The 28-year-old had scored just three times in 87 Premier League appearances, but looked like a consummate finisher as he struck a brilliant first-time finish past Vicente Guaita to break the deadlock 13 minutes from time.
