Man United scouts first 'valued Antony at just £25M' before they later forked out £85m... as 'desperation heightened' in the final days of Erik ten Hag's first summer transfer window at the club

Manchester United previously valued underperforming Brazilian winger Antony at just £25m, before eventually signing him for £85m, according to reports.

The club's recruitment and transfer policy has been heavily criticised in recent years with the department widely-expected to be overhauled once Sir Jim Ratcliffe's investment in the club is confirmed.

Antony joined United in last year's summer transfer window as he was reunited with former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag at the 13-time Premier League champions.

Eyebrows were initially raised over the near-£100m figure that was splashed on Antony in the closing days of the transfer window, and his performances since have failed to justify the eye-watering fee.
