Peter Schmeichel and Eric Cantona became heroes of Manchester United - but could easily have signed for their deadly rivals Liverpool.
Former Reds manager Graeme Souness has admitted he rejected the chance to sign goalkeeper Schmeichel as he had already brought in David James as the new No 1.
He also turned down the volatile but skilled Cantona as he did not want 'hassle', before the Frenchman joined Leeds United and later went to Old Trafford.
