Lessons that U.S. Soccer might learn when hiring future head coaches

Taylor Twellman described Bruce Arena's appointment as a "Band Aid" to stop the bleeding and get the United States men's national team back on track for Russia 2018.

If they come up short in qualifying -- and even if they don't, given that Arena will be nearly 67 after the World Cup -- odds are the United States Soccer Federation and its president Sunil Gulati will be searching for a new head coach sooner rather than later.

We don't know how wide they'll cast their net, what the priorities will be or whether Gulati himself will still be around to lead the search.
