Jose Mourinho 'totally against' international friendlies after Phil Jones and Chris Smalling sustain injuries in England training

Jose Mourinho has criticised international friendlies after Manchester United defenders Phil Jones and Chris Smalling were injured on England duty.

The Portuguese lamented the toe problem sustained by Jones and leg injury picked up by Smalling as avoidable and unnecessary.

He believes the only time friendly matches are required is in the build up to major tournaments.

He told Soccer Saturday: 'I am totally against the friendly matches, I think friendly matches for the national team only make sense before the final phases.
