Jose Mourinho sympathises with Zlatan Ibrahimovic after Manchester United star is robbed of ending 2016 as Europe's joint leading goalscorer

Jose Mourinho expressed sympathy for star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic after a controversial refereeing decision by Lee Mason robbed the Swede of ending 2016 as Europe's leading goalscorer alongside Lionel Messi.

Ibrahimovic thought he'd scored his 51st goal of the calendar year when he stabbed in Anthony Martial's cross during Manchester United's 2-1 victory against Middlesbrough at Old Trafford only for the goal to be ruled out for dangerous play.

Mr Mason judged Ibrahimovic's right foot was dangerously high when he made contact with the ball though fans at Old Trafford felt goalkeeper Victor Valdes had played for the decision by running into the striker after the ball had been played and rolled around in agony.
