Sir Jim Ratcliffe's ruthless restructuring of Manchester United has claimed its latest victim with director of football John Murtough stepping down.
Murtough, who was understood to be open to taking a lesser role as part of Ineos' restructuring of football operations, joined the club in 2013 having been brought in by David Moyes.
He became director of football in 2021 and a central figure leading the club's recruitment.
But with Ineos already dismissing CEO Richard Arnold back in November, and replacing him with Omar Berrada, they now Murtough is leaving as they continue to pursue Dan Ashworth, who will be his replacement.
