'It's fundamental that De Ligt stays at Juventus for many years': Jaap Stam says Dutch compatriot should stay in Turin after claims Manchester United are looking to sign the defender

Jaap Stam believes that Matthijs De Ligt needs to stay at Juventus in order to improve as a player.

The 20-year-old moved from Ajax to the Serie A champions last summer for £67.5m, though it has been reported that he could move on after just one year, with Manchester United reportedly interested.

Former Milan and Lazio defender Stam has told TuttoJuve.com that despite initial difficulties at the club, De Ligt's first season in the Serie A has been positive and he should look to stay in Italy.
