How Lionel Messi's winning the money game: Cristiano Ronaldo was voted sport's highest-paid athlete and earns over $300m a year but his rival's new $1.1bn Saudi deal will blow him out the water

Cristiano Ronaldo got one over his longtime rival Lionel Messi last week.

The Portugal superstar was named the world's highest-paid athlete, raking in $136million, according to Forbes' list.

Two of the greatest soccer players of all time have been locked in a battle for supremacy.

Ronaldo's Manchester United return turned sour but he hit the jackpot when he landed an eye-popping $212million-a-year contract with Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr in January.

Messi swapped Barcelona for Paris but just like Ronaldo at Old Trafford, things have not gone according to plan at French giants Paris Saint-Germain.
