Highlights: Northampton Town 1 United 3

Manchester United progressed to the fourth round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening after beating League One side Northampton Town 3-1 at Sixfields.

Jose Mourinho's men had to work hard to secure the win, after Alex Revell's first-half penalty cancelled out Michael Carrick's superb opener.

The Reds' class showed after the break though as Ander Herrera fired home from range, before substitute Marcus Rashford sealed the victory by making the most of a goalkeeping error with 15 minutes remaining.

The win set up a mouth-watering fourth-round tie against Manchester City, which will take place during the week commencing 24 October.
