The Reds midfielder, who started the country's first game at the tournament, was an unused substitute as the Eagles of Carthage knocked out Nigeria, one of the favourites to win the trophy.
Youssef Msakni scored the only goal of the game with a fine 47th-minute strike. Nigeria's hopes of hitting back were hampered when Everton's Alex Iwobi was sent off, only seven minutes after coming off the bench, for a challenge on Msakni. The original yellow card was upgraded to a red after a VAR review.
Burkina Faso beat Gabon in a penalty shoot-out to reach the last eight, after the game finished 1-1.
