Manchester United's leading all-time scorer was somebody for the schoolboy striker to idolise and he is thrilled to be following in the club legend's footsteps by representing the first team at Old Trafford.
Rooney, like Greenwood, broke into the senior game at a very young age and is returning to these shores to be player-coach at Derby County in the new year, following a stint with DC United in MLS.
“I’ve always looked up to Wayne Rooney,” he told MUTV.
“He’s the leading goalscorer and was always scoring goals and always being the man for the team so I was looking up to him.
