Manchester United emerged from the Vitality Stadium as comfortable victors after easing past AFC Bournemouth with goals from Chris Smalling and Romelu Lukaku.
Smalling was on hand for a tap-in after Jesse Lingard fired the ball across the face of goal midway through the first half. It was the defender’s second strike in three games after scoring the winner in the Manchester derby 11 days before.
Lukaku notched his 27th goal of the season in the second half - a new career best for the striker. Paul Pogba made a brilliant run on a United counter-attack and found the Belgian who dinked the ball over the Cherries’ goalkeeper, Asmir Begovic.
