The Reds have challenged for top spot with Spurs throughout the whole FA Women's Championship season, but last weekend’s defeat for the Londoners to Sheffield United Women gave United the opportunity to leapfrog them in the table.
Casey Stoney’s side did not need a second invitation and made the most of Tottenham’s slip up by beating Charlton Athletic Women 2-1, thanks to goals from Katie Zelem and Jess Sigsworth.
It means the Reds are top of the pile by a point with just five matches remaining, and, crucially, we have a game in hand on Spurs ahead of our trip to Theobalds Lane.
