A winner for Sir Alex Ferguson at York last Saturday kick-started a card that ended up belonging to Frankie Dettori, and the latter's situation made you think about one of the former's biggest decisions.
It was Christmas Day 2001 when Ferguson, dozing in his armchair, was abruptly woken by a kick to his foot. There was his wife, Lady Cathy, standing front and centre with their three sons, Jason, Darren and Mark.
'We've just had a meeting,' Lady Cathy informed the then Manchester United manager who, at that point, was preparing to head into the sunset.
