Didier Deschamps "expects more" from Anthony Martial after leaving the Manchester United man out of his France squad for next week's 2018 World Cup qualifier against Sweden and a friendly against Ivory Coast, while he has handed Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot his first senior international call-up.
Martial has struggled for form and fitness at Old Trafford this season, after a disappointing European Championship, with just two goals and two assists to his name for Jose Mourinho's men.
Deschamps told journalists at his squad announcement news conference on Thursday that the 20-year-old needs to start playing regularly again and regain some form with United before the resumption of international duty next March.
