David Moyes claims ‘the difference between Solskjaer and me is that he has been given time’… but restrictive tactics, questionable signings and trouble with senior pros shows he and Ole differ in more ways than one

The story of David Moyes and Manchester United is well known. The Chosen One. The man cherry picked by Sir Alex Ferguson to lead the club after their most successful period under their most successful manager but who lasted just 10 months before being given the boot.

Where it all went wrong remains a thorn in the side of the Glaswegian. He accepts his failings but maintains he wasn’t given enough time to establish himself and demonstrate the qualities required for the job.

That’s a line he has always stood by. Indeed, in an interview with Sportsmail in August 2014 – his first newspaper interview following his sacking after those 10 turbulent months in charge at Old Trafford – he spoke about how he wasn’t ‘given time to succeed or fail’.
