David Beckham urges Wayne Rooney to play for England 'until you can't give anymore'

David Beckham has congratulated Wayne Rooney as he prepares to become England's most-capped outfield player, but has urged his former team-mate to stay in the international game for as long as possible.

Rooney leveled Beckham's record of 115 caps in England's humiliating Euro 2016 exit to Iceland, but will pass the 41-year-old when he starts in Sam Allardyce's first game in charge against Slovakia on Sunday.

The 2018 World Cup in Russia has already been highlighted by Rooney as his final major international tournament, but former England captain Alan Shearer has claimed he should now consider leaving his country behind in order to prolong his club career.
