Despite the torrential rain, Lucien Favre was in a cheerful mood when he faced the cameras on Wednesday night. With a 2-0 win over Zenit St Petersburg and the first Champions League points of the season under his belt, the Borussia Dortmund coach could afford to smile.
Yet Favre's 100th game in charge of Dortmund had been a frustrating night, which could have turned out very differently. That it didn't was in large part down to Jadon Sancho.
After well over an hour spent hurling themselves against the side of Zenit's parked bus, it was Sancho who finally delivered Dortmund, breaking the deadlock with a 77th minute penalty before Erling Haaland sealed the win in stoppage time.
