Diego Simeone wants to build his new Atletico Madrid midfield around Ander Herrera and will move for the 28-year-old at the end of this season according to sources close to the Argentine coach.
Atletico’s interest in Spain international Herrera, who is out of contract at the end of the season, was reported in Diario AS on Friday.
The Spanish club are treading water after being hit by a transfer ban that will not be lifted until January 2018. They have dropped off the pace in La Liga and could be heading out of the Champions League.
