Oliver Giroud has cheekily claimed that his scorpion kick goal against Crystal Palace was 'better' than the one Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored against Sunderland.
The Manchester United star made headlines for his spectacular Boxing Day effort at Old Trafford, latching on to Zlatan Ibrahimovic's cross with a deft back heel to beat Jordan Pickford.
Mkhitaryan won goal of the month for December but Giroud will almost certainly be claiming that accolade for January after mirroring the effort less than a week later on New Year's Day.
The prize each player will want, however, will be the goal of the season award and Giroud suggested his strike, although technically similar, should be higher in the pecking order.
