Shifted from left to right since the arrival of Alexis Sanchez last month, if Martial wanted to make a point about his unhappiness at being uprooted from his preferred position then he did it with perfect petulance.
There was one second-half chase - with the odds 60-40 in his favour - where Martial simply withdrew from the foot race with Paul Dummett. For a split-second he reached for the back of his leg, but it was heart and not hamstring the issue here.
