An ex-USA international who counts Man United's Ralf Rangnick as a mentor, Jesse Marsch has gone from MLS to Premier League - with a stint at Salzburg in between... but after falling flat at RB Leipzig, he needs to make an immediate impact at Leeds

When trying to understand what makes Jesse Marsch tick it is important to go back to one particular lunch he had in Doha in 2015 in the company of Ralf Rangnick.

Marsch, then in charge at New York Red Bulls, had made the trip to Qatar, where RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg were training, to speak with the now Manchester United interim boss. It was, for both parties, the start of a mentorship that will no doubt be rekindled in England.

'I sat with Ralf Rangnick, and a mentor of his, Helmut Gross, and we spent one full day talking about football,' Marsch told the Coaches' Voice in 2020.
