Alexis Sanchez has revealed that he witnessed former Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi in tears after Chelsea knocked them out of the Champions League in 2012.
Messi missed a penalty in the Nou Camp before 10-man Chelsea edged past the Catalan giants 3-2 on aggregate en route to their famous European title triumph.
Sanchez, who played for Barca in both legs of the famous semi-final, used his anecdote about Messi to highlight how much top players invest into football emotionally as well as the high standards they set themselves.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Manchester United star Sanchez — who left Barca for Arsenal in 2014 — said: 'I think football saves many people.
