Rio Ferdinand heaps praise on 'phenomenal talent' Phil Foden and claims the Man City star has 'answered any negativity that has been thrown at him' after firing his side to victory with a goal against Newcastle

Rio Ferdinand has heaped praise on Phil Foden for his performance in Manchester City's win over Newcastle.

After enduring a period outside of Pep Guardiola's starting XI, Foden has returned in style, scoring his fourth goal in his last three games in all competitions during the 2-0 win at the Etihad.

The 22-year-old opened the scoring after 15 minutes following a dazzling run, cutting inside before striking the ball past England teammate Nick Pope via a deflection off Sven Botman.

Speaking on BT Sport following the game, Ferdinand claimed the rejuvenated star's performance had answered any doubters.
