Pep Guardiola regrets not taking Vincent Kompany off before Manchester City skipper's groin injury at Swansea City

Pep Guardiola says that he regrets not taking Vincent Kompany off before the Manchester City skipper suffered his latest injury setback.

Kompany sustained a groin injury in last week's EFL Cup win at Swansea and walked straight off the pitch in added time, leaving City to defend a 2-1 lead with only 10 men.

The 30-year-old Belgian was making his first appearance in nearly five months following a spate of muscle injuries that have put his City career in jeopardy, and Guardiola wishes that he had replaced Kompany earlier at the Liberty Stadium.

'Yes, maybe, now I would like to play him for 85 (minutes),' said the City boss, adding that Kompany had been told to let the bench know if he had any problems.
