The days are long gone when we used to get up early on a Saturday morning in May and park ourselves in front of the television to follow the build-up to the FA Cup final with more and more anticipation until the cameras tracked the team coaches as they edged through the throng on Wembley Way and the players strolled out on to that impossibly vivid green turf.
The Cup final was the most important occasion in the English football calendar and the competition produced some of the game’s most memorable occasions for the generation who grew up loving the game in the 1970s and 80s.
