Marouane Fellaini was shown a straight red card for headbutting Sergio Aguero in the closing minutes of Manchester United's derby draw with Manchester City – further depleting Jose Mourinho's already stretched squad.
Just seconds after the midfielder was booked for tripping Aguero, Fellaini brought the striker down again – prompting Aguero to confront the Belgium international and Fellaini to headbutt his opponent.
Although the midfielder berated the fourth official following his dismissal, referee Martin Atkinson was left with little choice but to send off the 29-year-old, who is now set to a miss a potentially season-defining run of matches.
