Manchester City are considering an appeal against Bacary Sagna’s £40,000 fine for a comment he made about referee Lee Mason earlier this month.
Sagna was charged with misconduct for questioning Mason’s integrity by writing ’10 against 12’ in a post on social media after City midfielder Fernandinho was sent off in the 2-1 win over Burnley at the Etihad.
The 33-year-old France defender accepted the charge, but both he and City are understood to be unhappy about the punishment and may now appeal against the severity of it.
One of the criteria for the fine is believed to be the player’s salary, with Sagna thought to earn as much as £150,000-a-week.
