Manchester City roar back into form with second-half blitz of Brighton to go back above Liverpool to the top of the Premier League, with Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva all on target

There looked to be at least three deflections in the build-up and execution of Manchester City's first goal and certainly one huge one as they scored their second.

This was not a victory that was about good fortune, though. Not a bit of it. This was a night when City held their nerve and earned exactly what they deserved. Pep Guardiola's team were far from their best and were playing under some pressure after Liverpool had swept ahead of them by demolishing Manchester United the night before.

But this was a night when City simply had to cope.
