MANCHESTER, England -- Pep Guardiola is ready to end his pursuit of a defensive midfielder before the transfer window closes if Manchester City can get a work permit for Douglas Luiz.
The City manager wanted a replacement for Yaya Toure, who was allowed to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season with Napoli's Jorginho identified as a top target.
However, Jorginho followed Maurizio Sarri to Chelsea, who City will face in the Community Shield on Sunday, and Guardiola is ready to give a chance to Luiz, who joined in a £10 million move from Vasco da Gama last summer.
