Manchester City call on convicted sex offender Barry Bennell to give evidence on their behalf as eight men take legal action against the Premier League club

Manchester City will this week call convicted sex offender Barry Bennell to give evidence on their behalf as their High Court case against eight of his victims comes to a close.

Bennell will appear by video link from Category C HMP Littlehey, in Cambridgeshire, where he is serving a 34-year term for abusing young footballers while Crewe Alexandra’s youth-team coach and, before that, as an unpaid coach and scout for City.

The 67-year-old is a key witness for City, whose stance in court is that he was not working for them at the time of the abuse.
