Manchester City and Stoke awarded 'weak' penalties, says Phil Neville as he warns defenders to get up to speed with new holding directives

Phil Neville believes Premier League players will have to get up to speed on the new rules after referee Mike Dean awarded two penalties for holding in the box during Manchester City's thumping win over Stoke.

Sergio Aguero got the chance to improve his record from 12 yards after Dean decided Ryan Shawcross got a little too close to comfort with Nicolas Otamendi.

If that decision was soft then Dean's decision to penalise Raheem Sterling for a similarity slight infringement on Shawcross in the City box levelled things up. Bojan made sure the England youngster's indiscretion was punished in full as he converted the spot kick.
