A cup replay at home to Huddersfield mirrors exactly what happened the last time the two clubs met in the FA Cup, 29 years ago.
In those days, City and Huddersfield shared second tier ranking and held little hope of final success in the tournament. A 2-2 draw at Leeds Road necessitated a replay in Manchester, which was also drawn -- this time without goals -- before City prevailed 3-0 in a second replay back in West Yorkshire.
These days, as the two sides prepare to do battle again, things are a little different. While Huddersfield remain in the second tier of English football, their hopes this season are -- reasonably enough -- focussed on promotion, as David Wagner's progressive tactics bring Town closer to the top flight than at any time since their last demotion in 1971-72.
