Manchester City academy chief Mark Allen joins Rangers as new director of football after eight years at the Etihad

Rangers have confirmed Manchester City academy director Mark Allen as their new director of football.

Tuesday's appointment of the 54-year-old Welshman ends a lengthy search for a figure to work side by side with coach Pedro Caixinha on the restructuring of the club’s football set-up.

Allen spent seven years at City, overseeing the development of the £200million Etihad Campus.

Describing the new man as a ‘great asset’ to the Ibrox club, managing director Stewart Robertson said: ‘We are delighted Mark has agreed to move to Glasgow and become our new director of football.
