Pep Guardiola's side entered the clash having suffered back-to-back disappointments in the form of a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Arsenal and defeat to Real Madrid in midweek.
The hosts wasted little time in seizing the initiative however, with a long ball from Ederson finding Omar Marmoush who produced a deft chip to mark his first goal for the club.
Marmoush was again involved just minutes later, as he doubled City's lead from inside the box.
