Joey Barton was sacked by Fleetwood Town as a dressing room altercation with Ched Evans contributed to the end of his first managerial post.
Sportsmail understands Evans and Barton were involved in a heated row after last month’s 1-0 win at Swindon Town, with the striker having not played since.
The pair came to blows following the victory, during which Evans was a substitute for the final 16 minutes. Barton later declared that Evans had no future at Fleetwood and the 32-year-old was suspended by his manager.
Championship side Preston North End were in negotiations to sign the former Wales international on loan before Barton had been relieved of his duties.
