The last and only time Oxford United won the League Cup was back in the day when the FA’s sponsors named the competition the Milk Cup.
In front of over 90,000 Wembley spectators, the U’s beat Queens Park Rangers 3-0. In those days men walked around with mullets, and the Bangles were in the charts singing Manic Monday.
The year was 1986, and the League Cup rules at the time stated that if the game ended in a draw, the teams would have to replay the final at the national stadium. Also, the clubs could name and field only ONE substitute.
