The midfielder was not named in the initial starting eleven on Tuesday night, but the torrential rainfall that caused the game with Borussia Monchengladbach to be postponed gave the German his chance.
Gundogan was drafted in due to the absence of David Silva and played a starring role as City roared to a convincing 4-0 win over the Bundesliga outfit in their opening Champions League group match.
