Giovanni Van Bronckhorst has ended his brief association with Manchester City and after being named the new manager of Guangzhou R&F in China.
Sportsmail revealed in September that chiefs at New York City, a sister club of the Premier League champions, had earmarked Van Bronckhorst as a potential future boss.
The Dutchman had worked within the City Football Group all season but opted against succeeding Domenec Torrent at the MLS side.
The 44-year-old's close friend, Claudio Reyna, was sporting director at New York before leaving to join MLS expansion team Austin FC in November.
